Thomas Batte

Thomas Batte of Henrico County possessed a great estate. He was the son or grandson of a graduate of Oxford University and from his youth had been accustomed to hold education in high esteem. Batte was, however, in the habit of making his "mark" on legal documents.   He was born in England in 1634  and died in 1698.  He is accredited with having discovered the New River with Robert Fallum in 1671.
